What is ELA?
Edinburgh landlord Accreditation (ELA) is an initiative between the Scottish
Association of Landlords and The City of Edinburgh Council to raise standards
and recognise good practise in the private rented market in Edinburgh
How does it work?
ELA is open to landlords or letting agencies who have properties in Edinburgh. ELA recognises and distinguishes good landlords and letting agents who take a responsible approach to letting their property.
ELA Landlords and letting agents are able to publicly distance themselves from incompetent or unscrupulous landlords
How the Scheme Works
ELA relies on self certification by landlords and letting agents and encompasses all private rented property in the Edinburgh area. Private landlords and letting agents will agree to meet the Code of Standards set out by ELA. The Code sets out standards that it is expected that accredited landlords and letting agents will comply with.
Membership of the scheme is the final decision of ELA, which may consider any evidence that suggests a landlord does not currently comply with the Code of Standards.
A certificate of accreditation is issued to successful landlords and an information pack is sent to tenants. Accredited landlords can use and display the ELA logo when marketing their properties. We may inspect a sample of properties and interview tenants to ensure that our standards are met and maintained
